hello peeps, iv bought a veiled chameleons, she,s about 13 months old, she,s scratching the bottom of her viv, slowed down in eating, does this mean she,s going to lay eggs, iv blocked off and filled some of her viv with sand as it tells you to, shes started digging straight away, do i need to take her 4 x ray to make sure or do i just leave her to it, a bit lost on chameleons iv always had igis and moniters
any help will do
thanks dave

Leave her, don't annoy her (she needs privacy) and wait. If she seems to be done with the eggs, you'll may let your vet make x-rays to be sure there aren't anymore (but I would not recommend taking her out until there are real reasons to assume she still has some eggs left). How much sand have you filled in (if it isn't deep enough, she will not lay)? Have you found the blogs about egg laying here?

she,s dug n dug all day n still digging, is this normal, am i panicking over nothing?????
thanks dave

they can dig for a long long time.
leave her alone. dont let her see you spying she could become egg bound

hello peeps, she dug most of the day n all of the nite, she dug that much the sand tunnel collasped and she still diggin now, wot do i do??????
thanks dave

You might want to read Kinyongia's piece on keeping a female. She's done a lot of work on how to keep the size and frequency of egg clutches down. Obviously, the more often she lays and the more eggs she lays, the harder it is on her system.

And please reduce feeding. The more you feed, the more eggs she lays. But big clutches like this will take a lot of enegery and resources from your girl, more than necessary.

And she could lay just as many if she was bred and has retained sperm, which they often do.

If you want to decrease the clutch size you will need to feed her well for a couple of days and then cut the diet back as described in my article. If you don't cut it back in time, she will likely produce another big clutch.
