Hey y'all,
I've referenced this website many a times for information, but I'm new to posting. (Kinda beside the point really)
I recently got a juvenile male Veiled chameleon about two weeks ago. Right now, since he's still several weeks old (I assume since he's small and pastel green), his diet consists of crickets. He gets fed about 12 or so crickets a day (split up into 3 feedings). He's in an all mesh cage appropriate for his current size. He gets misted once to twice a day. There's no substrate on the bottom of his cage because I read about the damage it can cause with digestion. His humidity stays anywhere from 45% to 60%. And his temperature during the day is about 78, while his basking is about 85-90 degrees (sometimes he sits with his mouth open cause he gets hot up there). And his night temps are about 75 degrees.
He has a UVB bulb that's a 5.0. He also has a drip system that drips into a bowl, but that gets cleaned daily so there's no bacteria buildup.
When it comes to supplementation, I have recently created this schedule:
Monday- calcium with no D3
Tuesday- multivitamins (which I'm getting this weekend so at this moment he doesn't get any supplements on this day)
Wednesday- calcium with d3
Thursday- calcium with no D3
Friday-calcium with D3
Saturday- calcium with no D3
Sunday- no supplements
I use flukers orange cube for the crickets, Flukers calcium with d3 (no phosphorus), and rep-cal calcium with no d3 or phosphorus.
As far as how many crickets should be dusted per feeding, I have no idea. Since he already makes d3 I don't want to give him too much. (He does not get natural sunlight). And I also don't want to give him too much calcium because I know that it can cause problems, as well as lack of calcium.
If y'all have any suggestions on how many crickets I should dust per feeding on those days that would be greatly appreciated!!
I'm also going to make an appointment with a local vet so that I can just get his overall health checked out and maybe ask some questions.
If y'all need me to answer any questions about him I'd be glad to, or post any pictures.
Also, at one point yesterday and today he has had the white crust on his nose. Many people say that it's salt and to not change his dusting schedule, but any opinions would be appreciated.
(He's currently mad at me for taking a wet q-tip to his nose so I would remove the excess salt secretions he seems to have had)
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
