He/She was hit by a car in Hammonton NJ. I took it home in a box because i didnt want to just leave him or her on the side of the road. By the time we got back he/she was better and flew away.

I looked into becoming a falconer but here in N.Y. Its a involved process first you have to find a falconer who is willing to train a apprentice. And getting the equipment to get started is expensive not to mention that you can be inspected at any time by fish and wildlife.

Call your local vet and tell them you picked up a wounded raptor and they will take care of him or send him to a raptor rehad. center.
If you get caught with a wild raptor in your home (live or dead) you will be facing a federal crime.

It's good that you got him away from the side of the road.
Are there any parks or fields near your house? If so he'll hopefully start hunting there and not return to the roadkill buffet.

I once looked into becoming a falconer too. I talked with a local falconer and she said that many young hawks grow up near a highway and become scavengers and ultimately roadkill. One thing a falconer can do is trap yearling hawks near the highways and hunt with them for a year or so in the forests and fields. The following year they let the, now adult, bird go in it's new hunting grounds. It won't go back to the roads now and with any luck neither will it's offspring.
