Cool Idea

So I just thought of a pretty cool idea that may help some of my fellow forum members out. This will probably work mainly with those that have small to medium sized quantities of feeders rather than larger quantities but could still work either way. And this will probably work best with roaches, especially larger species, and superworms but could work with a few others I'm sure.

So I wanted to find a way to be able to separate my feeders from their poo once it begins to build up and thought of taking a piece of pvc pipe (I will be using pieces that are at least 2" in diameter), adhering a piece of screen to the bottom, on the outside, and then pour the feeders and their waste out of their container and down the pvc. The feeders will land on the screen and the waste will fall right through, and then you can just pour your feeders out of the pvc and back into their container.

Just make sure that the pvc is long enough to hold all of the feeders coming out of their container so they won't come over the side :p, that the adhering of the screen to the pvc is firm so the weight of the feeders dosn't cause the screen to fall through, and that the screen holes are large enough for the waste to fall through but small enough to keep the feeders from fall through.

Any ways thats my idea and is how I will start separating some my feeders from their waste from now on and just wanted to share :)

Oh, and a tip for this- the mesh from the Hornworm Pod Cups works great for using a larger screen for larger insects, and is a lot easier to adhere than metal screen. The larger screen would be needed for the larger waste from large roaches, like Discoids/Dubias, etc., and could be used for larger supers if your affraid that they will chew through the regular screen used on the other PVC for smaller feeders, before you can separate them from the waste.

Sounds like a good idea! I may try this. I've thought about using the bucket with holes idea...

Thanks! And this would probably be best to only use with the roach nymphs and supers, and not the larger roaches as it would be harder to pour them into a PVC pipe, unless it's very large or you use a funnel :p
