construction paper

I have one side of my chameleons tank covered up with construction paper to attempt to keep light out. Could it be toxic to the chameleon if it were to get humid in there and breathe in the chemicals from the paper? i'm only keeping it up at night for now.

I don't believe construction paper is toxic... I mean they use it in elementary schools where kids may eat/chew on it.

is it really smelly paper? with a strong ink smell?

I use black garbage bags in the back of my cages to keep the water from the sprayer off the wall.....

are you blocking light so the chameleon can sleep?

well I just have my tv on at night, its not a whole lot of light but I thought it would help.

My little veiled sleeps in the plastic hanging plant I have in the corner. I take a throw pillow and prop in up near there at night to block the light by my bed and I angle the light down more (full spectrum light for fly tying I put by my bed when I got a new bed).

Given the likelihood it will get wet, I would think construction paper was a short term solution. Plastic is better. You could get a piece of coroplast (plastic that looks like corogated cardboard) at office depot or something like that and use that. You might even be able to replace that piece of your cage with the coroplast if you need something opaque there all the time.
