Constipation or old age?

Hi, I have a male veiled chameleon. He is now 6 years old (i know exactly as he was bought for my 19th b'day and i will be 25 this month) and we have had him since he was 2inches long. He was my first ever reptile. He is kept in a 4foot tall by 3foot wide viv with plenty of branches, vines etc. He has a full spectrum bulb (strip bulb) which is an exo terra repti glo 5.0. This is changed regularly. He also has a basking bulb. His temp is kept at 75-80 during the day and dropped to 65-70 at night. He eats crickets, locusts, mealworms as well as a wide variety of fruit and veg. We dust his food twice a week with calci dust. He drinks plenty of water (most of the time directly from the spray bottle when we mist his tank). He has not been handled since he was roughly 12 months old as he started showing signs of stress when he was out. The last few days we have noticed a swelling around his vent and you can see what appears to be dry faeces. Before anyone asks why i have not taken him to the vet, it is because due to his age i do not want to handle him and stress him out as he does not cope well being handled. If absolutely need be i will take him, but i fear it will kill him. He has also slowly started losing weight even though he is eating and is not as active as usual. Since noticing the swelling i have increased the amount of fruit and veg with high water content (grapes, apples, carrot, his favourite. etc) and have given him a small amount of rocket in the hope it will help 'move' things. I have also been spraying his vent slightly with treated water for the same reason. Is there anything more i can do or is this things starting to shut down?:(

from what ive been reading it could be impacted, a spermplug, a prolapse...

you should get multiple pictures and post them. also, you should take a plant or something and put it in the shower with warm water bouncing off the wall and put him on the plant. that might hurry things along..

Thank you for the quick response, i will try that. He loves live plants, he had a ficus in there but he ate it!! I will try and get some pics tomorrow as he is settled down for the night and not budging from his favourite spot and its impossible to get a pic of his vent at the mo.

btw i know it's not a prolapse, thanks for the suggestion. We had that problem with our female bearded once and it's nothing like that.

Could be prolapse and a vet visit is in order and I think this little man deserves it. Can you post pictures of the vent?

Thanks jannb, it's not a prolapse, i had that once with my female bearded and it's nothing like that. I want to get him to a vet but I would really rather not handle him as i do not want to stress him out and he really doesn;t like it, terified it will just kill him, also he's lost alot of weight in the past couple of weeks. I will get some before and after pics on as soon as i can so you can see just how drastically and how quickly this has happened which is why it's made me wonder if it's just him coming to the end and things starting to shut down. Could renal failure cause impaction?

some pics of him, first 2 from 2 months ago, last one from last month. His casque has always been bent like that, he sleeps with his head tucked into the corner of the viv and thats just how its grown.
