coiled house bulbs for basking?

Nope :) You can use a softwhite house bulb though. I bet many people are going to get at you for asking about coiled;) Coileds are enemies! :p

Coiled bulbs give off very little heat unless you're touching the actual bulb. So using one for basking is out of the question regardless of eye problems.

I posted some information in a thread here this week about the dangers of household CFL's...you should be able to find it in a search.

K that's all I wanted to know. I already have a 100 watt frosted bulb that work fine anyway.

And I already have a linear UVB bulb thank you, the posting was for a basking light. I just wanted to know if there was a way to lower the power use of the heat lamps.

well to lower the power use, you prob don't need a 100w.. that bulb should put out a lot of heat.. idk, play around with your temps, i bet you could drop the wattage

You are good to go than... Just make sure the highest place under that basking spot doesnt get to hot because a male can get a burn on their casque (sp)

Coiled bulbs are a no no !

Just use a soft white house bulb . Depedning on temp you need you might get by with a 40 watt light if you can get it close enough to him without danger of being burned. I always put my lights on out side of cage mostly on adluts . With babys you might get by with a low watt bulb in cage as long as they can not reach it from any angle . Remember these guys are pros at climbing and its there job to do so.
