coil uvb bad for aquatic turtles?

can coil uvb bulbs afect the eyes of say aquatic turtles? i have a baby american snapper and i have a coil uvb ^^ i know its evil! but its about 2 ft away from the water.will it hurt him?....( i have a tube uvb on my cham)

Probly not, but at 2feet away it wont help it in the slightest either.

the light is nnot filterd in anyway...no screen... the top of his cage is completely open ( its on a large desk thingy) so hes getting the full power of the bulb

Maybe you should look into mercury vapor bulbs they will work at a distance.

Its the distance that makes the difference 2 ft is to far for that bulb.

Id get a 10 tube for a turtle and suspend it within 6-8 inches of the water/platform.
Better yet, get it outside as much as possible too.
I know its cold the US at present, but any sunny day. You can keep it warm without
lights if you use a little ingenuity, and the temp dosent affect UV much.
Gets cold in nature anyway.
First 6-12 months UV /calcium is crucial for healthy shell/bone developement, more especially in captives.

curently hes being fed crikets and small goldfish and 1 superworm per week hes eating the same gutloaded crix/worms my cham eats so hes getting his calcium he is not a cb....hes Wc...my moms freind found him and wanted to take it home to her pond....so she gave it to me to identify it ....abvously it was a baby snapper...so i told her unless she wants all her fish eaten...this is not the turtle you want in your pond...where she found it was nearly 6 hours away...so ive just taken it in and made a indor pond basicly with live plants a filert water heating pad rocks and free range feeder fish and a whole bunch of other crap that goes into care for it

Its not in the wild, it's a captive now isn't it!
Getting calcium is one thing, being able to use it is quite another.
P.S be careful with rocks, make sure they are very stable. Screen the filter intake, or/and place it so the turt cant get near it, especially if its a strong filter.

I soak my pellets with powder, but most of it washes away when I put it in the water. You can hand feed them the dusted crickets, or pellets out of the water so that they don't wash off the power.

some will, some wont. Some powder will stick to bugs dropped on the water surface.
You can make up your own turtle blocks and include calcium and vitamins.
Cuttlebone (grated for babys) whole for larger turtles, is a great source of calcium.
Whole live feeder fish are better still.
Freshwater crayfish/crawfish, freshwater shrimp etc are also good.
pellets are ok, but fresh is best for anything. Some species wont touch them.
I never liked to use them much, when I did, I soaked them first till they stopped expanding.
