Closed eye !

Hello my one year old chameleon has his eye closed its been like this for about 2 days. I remember accidently hitting him softly on his eye with one of the twigs from his cage and since he hasnt opened it. He has an appointment with the vet this saturday but will it be too late by then is there anything anyone reccomends? I can see that it hurts him when he tries to open his eye because he kinda flinches a bit.

What are you feeding him and what supplements are you using? Vitamin A deficiency can often start with him holding one eye closed. It could also be that something got in his eye.

Can you post pics? If the eye looks completely normal then I would guess one of the two things I mentioned above. If it is irregularly shaped or has fluid coming out it may be an infection.

It's not very likely that a branch softly hitting the eye would cause him to be unable to open it, although its possible if it hit just right.

when my chameleon was constantly blinking his eye, I dropped a few drops of antibacterial saline and it stopped the blinking. Maybe you should try this with your cham.
Also when you hit him by accident, its may have hurt more than you think.
Think of it like this: Theoretically, your cham is 40x smaller than you so everything is going to seem 40x more powerful to him than to you.

Since it got bumped on the eye with a branch I doubt it's a vitamin A issue.
Glad you're taking it to the vet. If the eye is scratched it can easily be one infected.

Yeah, your right, if it happened right when the branch hit that was probably the issue. It just seemed strange that a single rub would have such a big effect since it seems like they are pretty good at protecting their eyes.

You can rinse your cham's eyes with a gentle saline solution to help prevent infection from setting in and soothe the eye.

You want to gently squirt the saline solution into the eye and fill it up so the lid puffs out temporarily.
Even with closed eyes the gentle stream can penetrate the closed lid.
