Clinincal Supplies for WC Specimens?

Hey Everyone,

I'm interested in acquiring a few WC specimens and would like to be as prepared as possible before taking any animal in.

My two main concerns at this time are, what should I have on site and how to go about getting it. I'm knowledgeable enough to know what does what for the most part and in the past I've had vet's provide me whatever I needed, but things have changed in 15 years and I want to make sure I'm not going after old school approaches for treating common WC issues. For instance, in the past I would have some Batrly and Panacur on site at all times, but I'm not sure if those are the best options for the symptons they treat anymore.

For those who deal with a good deal of WC specimens, what do you have in stock and how did you get it?

I'm also curious if anyone performs their own prelim fecal exams. If so, what equiptment do you use?

I appreciate any help and info anyone can provide.

Thanks!

Luis

I keep Baytril and Panacur on hand for the obvious stuff. I also have a supply of Panazuril.

I do my own fecal so I run one of them and does them with Panacur every two weeks at least 3 times even if I do not see any parasites.

I will find the the info on my scope , etc

Here is a little something I wrote on the subject. There are a couple of lists at the end that may help. Most of this is just common stuff to have and you probably are aware, I just think its helpful to have it all written down in one place.

Thanks for the info and quick reply. Of course they spark further questions... ;)

Have you tried the USB adapters for the scope? These peaked my interest...

Also, did you buy the slides from the same source? Do you even use slides? :)

Thanks again and your blog has some great information. Good work!

I believe LuckyKarma (Gary) on this forum has used the USB camera 3.2mp or something like that and it works well for documenting taking a snapshot etc.

I buy my slides and slide covers from here

Fecal flotation solution (FecalSol )

commercially manufactured fecal container

the feces is placed in a tube or commercially manufactured fecal container. Special fecal flotation fluid is then added to the tube with the feces and the combination is stirred. This is then allowed to sit for about 20 minutes. The hope is that any parasitic eggs present in the feces will float to the top of the fluid.
