Cleaning cool mist Hummidifiers

How and how often do people clean cool mist humidifiers? I have hard water and I am afraid that the deposits could have negative side effects on my Jackson's. I think I should use purified water but that would not be practical. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You will find that if you use tap water, the transducer disk will become covered in water deposit, and it will stop working. Soaking it in white vinegar will remove the deposits, and it will work again.
Clean everything as often as you can.;)

I use bottled water, and I flush/clean my system maybe every other week or so with bleach and hot water to flush out any bacteria growth.
