My plants are getting to much water from the matter which isn't good for them and I was wondering how to keep them from getting so much water.also there are gnats everywhere and I need to get rid of them before I can put the cage back together.

These are probably fungus gnats hatching out in the potting soil. Your plants are sitting in saturated soil which will rot the roots. You need to repot your plants in soil that drains faster. You can add very coarse sand (REALLY coarse sand or some that has small gravel), pebbles, bark chunks, perlite, even broken up packing peanuts to the bottom portion of each pot. Not added to the surface. Also, enlarge the pot's drainage holes and keep the pot saucer empty. Unfortunately, your soil is now full of gnat eggs so you won't get rid of them until you replace the soil. The gnats aren't dangerous, just really annoying!

I had a problem with gnats as well. I pulled all three plants out cleaned the soil off and gently scrubbed the roots with dish soap. They haven't been back and the plants kept growing and stayed healthy. Good luck, hope you get rid of them. They are annoying.

Thank you for the advice I will get started repotting tomorrow. Hopefully my plants live through the process and I will pick up done better soil when I get the new pots.

Make soil from a 50/50 mix of play sand (wash it) and Ecoearth. From my research it will drain better and wont have those issues :). Little more expensive though.
