Claws/Nails missing from toes?

Hi, ive just noticed today that my Male Veiled has about three claws/nails missing, this must have only just happened as i would have noticed before.

The only thing i can put it down too is his new Mesh encloser that he climbs on the roof and sides all the time everyday.

I take it these dont grow back?

Is it going to cause any problems?

My female is in a different setup with mesh roof only and has alll of her claws and they are long and sharp.

The nails don't regrow if they are ripped out of the nail bed. My first female wore all hers down to stumps when digging to lay her second clutch. They were never the same afterwards although they did continue to grow. Amy has lost a couple of nails too and only has a mesh roof also. Don't know how she did it though.

Thanks, Im thinking for the male its because of his new setup which is all mesh and to be honest he spends more time on the sides and roof than he does on the plants vines, as long as its not got going to cause him problems if he looses more then doubt he will be able to keep climbing about on the mesh,


I understand the females need them more for digging.

Does he have plenty of plants and vines to climb on in his cage? It may be best to discourage him from climbing the mesh if possible. I know that my dear Lily couldn't hold on to smoother and wider diameter branches after wearing her nails down - it was quite sad really.

Yeah he has two large fiscus, an Umbrella plant, about 4 different thickness bendy vines and loads of branches etc but loves to climb the mesh, he has always done it even when young

If you can find a plastic chicken wire like mesh or something similar, you can line the screen it will give him something to hold on to that won't pull his nails out. There is this veiled at my local pet store who has quite a few nails missing, but he still tries to climb on the screen whenever I come and see him.

Hi thanks for that i have seen the stuff before in some peoples set ups im going to get some as i dont want himto have no nails he sure does like to climb about on the mesh,

Some chams are just wall climbers no matter how many branches and perches you put in there for them. I'd still try adding a few more to see if it will get him to do it less though.
