Im thinking of takeing chloe back to the vet. a while back you saw she was being treated for endama and some odd eye puffing crud that was going on.

well shes doing the eye puffing again. her "neck fat" is mostly gone but she just seems not right to me. i heard her weez the other day and im thinking gr8. RI. my vet isnt really knowledgeable on chameleons and usually just goes to a vet forum for advise. but it coast me 70 for him to do this. i was to make an appt to have tests done this time. its about 150+ for an xray or for a blood test. idk how much a swab would be. when i say eye puffing i mean her eyes inflate. could this be related to the possible ri? what test should i conduct and what does it sound like she has? most of the time she looks fine but than suddenly she'll get puffy looking. i dont give her cal. anymore and that cut back alot on her endama. your advise on the best possible test to get ot find out and treat the issue would be awsome.

to make this simple. blood test, xray, or culture test? or something else. thanks :)

I'm sorry to hear that Chloe is still not well. If you have stopped dusting her feeders with calcium then I highly recommend giving her a couple drops of liquid calcium a week. If it's an RI she'll need a culture and sensitivity test. You might want to check around and see if you can find a vet with more chameleon knowledge within driving distance but if you can't as long as your vet sends out the culture for testing that would be fine. I would thing IF she has an infection that could be causing the eye problems. I've also noticed the girls sometime have the edema. I believe it is associated with the egg laying cycles. I hope she feels better soon.

thanks. thats what i was thinking of doing. that or the blood test. im stuck on what one would be more helpful

True, but theres a few members i think on here that have similar problems with montanes getting endama here and there. hers may actually be fat beacuse the endama reduced ALOT. its just a lil bit now.

I'm assuming it could still come from any females cycle.

probally so. females do seem to have a hard time with it. she gets shakey when i give her cal and her eyes puff more often. i've compleatly taken it out of her diet for a month now. most symptoms have gone down alot. no more shakey gait. just eye puffing(not cleaning) now and than. her crikets are gutloaded with cal cubes and must greens atm (+ fruits and whole grain) im also careing for another hoe atm and givieng him the same care as him, he's perfect and actually been eating alot and shed a few days ago. i just dont understand where my care is off to cause an RI and also why im haveing such a hard time decideing what tests need to be done. at this point it could be anything. too many factors and it seems no one has experence with these symptoms.

Edema..Are you feeding her too many insects naturally high in fat and or phosphorus? Super worms, mealworms, wax worms? Are you supplementing plain calcium every feeding to balance out your feeders?

If the vet confirms a RI. This is the third time right? If this is...knowing you are free ranging. i would make sure any a/c ducts are closed that are near and make sure she is able to bask..temp should be set to the mid 80's and even high 80's to 90 will be just fine.

2nd. i treated her once before and now she seems to be showing symptoms again(she breahted thru her mouth the other day). she gets mostly crikets- a treat her and there but shes been on a diet for about a month now. i've taken her off the FR for some alone time and de-stress and work on getting better a few weeks ago. im not giveing any cal becuase i think i was over dusting her, for a while she was really bad and than i cut off cal and she got better. about once a week, mabey a lil longer. i put a little cal on the crikets little legs and thats all. im scared to over do it. i dont know what im doing wrong beacuse kermit(the other hoe) is doing awsome and so is everyone else. :( at night i let my ceiling fan on to help a drop. theres no water mist or anything tho. when chloe basked more often she was doing better but she hangs out by the window (when she fr'ed) and didnt want to bask. now shes in a cage and "forced" to be under UVB and bask.

she get waxworms here and there, more often waxmoths. most of her diet is crikets and some WC bugs.

my feeders are gutloaded with mustards greens, fresh fruits, cerial and cal cubes(those yellow water cubes that have cal in them) i want to get her treated but idk what to look for. shes really not very sick or anything, eats and drinks like a champ, but the eye thing is bothering me and i feel like she might not feel well. what do you think?

in the cage atm her max temp is 80 with a 10 degree drop set perfect for her.

The eye thing..Is it always puffy/swollen or does it go down?> Crudd? have pics?

80* basking..how long has she been at this temp?

shes always had the option(on the fr) to 80+ prolly up to 98+ on certain lights. i have three light domes 2 basking 2 uvb and. the eye puffing is temp and usually happening(i've noticed) under some sort of stress. when i put her alone she seems to almost never do it. but it still occurs(rarely). its as thought her entire eye is doubled up and imflammed with air or something. doesnt feel hard(i've touched it) and she can still see when it happens but it does impare her vision where she cant shoot right. i tested it by offering feeder. she instead just ate without tounge. she usually eats just fine tho.it usually doesnt last long either;i mist her when i see it (doesnt make it go away but i do it in case it helps any) for a long time it compleatly disapeard while i was treating the previous RI. i guess its possible it came back.

RI history- chloe breathed in some water dureing a shower and got an RI. i got meds and "treated it" not long after i relized it haddent left and she went to the vet. he told me to turn up the heat and bake it out(same RI). now im here and wondering if it the same RI and comeing up again or if theres a diffrent problem. could an RI be cuaseing these eye problems? she isnt really showing RI symptoms but i feel like it still might be there. no bubbleing, mucus, excesive basking(when she was on FR) ect. i saw her once or twice take a deep breath.

What do you mean by crudd?

i could see her immune system being weakened by a ri allowing a second infection such as a sinus infection to occur. Unlikely but possible. I have never witnessed eye swelling due to a ri..

If it is a sinus infection. the eye in due time will stay buldged out and or visual signs of infection. On a other note. I read somewhere that blood pressure has something to do with eye swelling in bearded dragons. I cant remember where i saw this :/ but this almost sounds right to this case. As you state you notice this when she is stressed. I dont know if this has been found in chameleons or even can be possible but if the vet cant find anything wrong this might be a ease of mind for you.

I know your doing great with her. I hope your able to figure out what is going on here.

crudd= literal term. Blood pressure sounds very possible and would make the not really being sick make sense. I'll call today and see what he wants to do. Thankyou:)

(if anyone saw this early and noticed it was compleatly illegable- i was on my phone and not looking while i was typeing)

ataraxia, thanks i love chloe so much. shes my total sweetheart and made me want a whole bedroom full of hoes! :p. i'll have to hold back untill i move put, but then, its on.
