Hi there,
For about a week or two now my female veiled chameleon has been acting a bit strange and i'm wondering whether it's normal or should i take her to the vets?
She seems to be spending a lot of time on the ground, and is eating a lot less live food than usual, although her intake of veggies is normal. She also seems to have put on a lot of weight quite quickly.
My first thought was that she could be gravid. Despite having a hysterectomy a couple of years ago, she still managed to lay a few eggs earlier this year (much to my surprise). i was told it can happen when chameleons grow back the cells of the uterus if there are any remaining, and it is sometimes hard to get them all as it is such microscopic surgery.
However, i supplied her with a digging box as usual, and have been feeling her tummy for eggs but i cant feel the usual lumps.
My main concern is how much time she spends on the ground, as usually she is up in her vines for most of the day and is very out of character for her to spend so much time at the bottom of the viv.
I am not 100% sure of her age, as she has had 2 previous owners before me, neither of whom looked after her very well! but i was told when i got her nearly 3 years ago that she was about 2 or 3.
if anyone could help me in this matter please dont hesitate to comment or email me on
