Chams in AUS?

While i know exotics are illegal here in aus, chameleons- specifically of the veiled species are seemingly very cheap here- for reptiles in general, really. from what I've heard, 200-600 is the average price for one, that's the average price one would pay for most dwarf monitors here, which are native and captive bred.
They also seem one of the more popular exotics, being bred underground here regularly supposedly, and being commonly sold animals, with from what i heard, even Australian members here having them. And yet- they still are so seemingly rare. just curious about how common exactly could it be estimated Panthers or Veiled's are here in aus? again, seemingly common- but also i haven't even found traces of them being sold, though is expected with them being illegal and fines(or worse) being somewhat heavy for your everyday joe. Anyone here know anything about such?..any info about them- about the market for them/how popular they are when it comes to illegal exotics, etc?
