Chams eating their first superworms!

ive been looking for that green stuff everywhere . that keeps water inside and its the best thing to cover the soil with . nice cham btw . where did you get the green stuff ? thanks

The green stuff is just sand that I got at Petco. I think it's Calcisand or Reptisand, I'm not sure any more since I threw out the packaging. It's basically calcium so if they eat a little bit of it, it'll be some extra calcium in their diet. I noticed that after a while it kind of gets compacted and forms a crust. The superworms that I put on there crawled around on top of the sand, I think they got eaten before they had a chance to burrow in. I would imagine that they could burrow in if given the chance.

I imagine that someone here might worry about impaction with the sand, but I believe that the chams really don't ingest much of it to worry about, especially after it gets the crust on the top. When I'm feeding them I like to just throw the crickets on the sand, then they either get eaten on there or crawl up the plant to get eaten. Also they have this sand in a lot of different colors, so you can pick the color you like.

River rocks are much better than sand. Just think, if dirt can compact so can this stuff, especially if it gets hard on top of the soil. You can buy some really pretty rocks at a craft store that would be a much better way of keeping your chams out of the dirt and they are easy to clean.

What size rocks do you think is best? I just found some of these in my house (left by previous tenants) that are about 1" wide by 1.5" long. Won't the feeders just be able to hide in between them? I'll give them a try and see how I like them. Thanks!
