Chamelone Turns Bright when Being held

I have a 6 month old Panther, over the last few days i have actually been able to get him out of the cage.. When he is out his colours seem to come out a little, Green with baby blue bars, when he puffs up which is not often his upper half is green, lower half turns yellow with baby blue bars. Why do the bright colours come out when he is being held? When he is in the cage he doesnt seem to be a BRIGHT..
