Chameleons in new homes

If that is the case, in months to come you will need a laying bin for eggs. The females lay eggs without being mated. Search on here for how to set up thr bin. That can be later though. Right now you have to make many changes to your set up in order for your chameleon to survive. I would also recommend a dripper for hydration in addition to misting.

The way the cage is set up I don't think it can close enough to the basking area to warm up...or is that temperature where it normally sits in the low 80's F?T Taking it out of the cage cools it off if your room temperature is normal so that signals that it's time to go to sleep so it does. You need to solve both these problems asap IMHO.

As for the eye rubbing and stretching/croaking...is the nose up in the air when it does the stretching/cracking? Is it actually making a sound when it does this? Something is irritating the eye if it's rubbing it in things...so it either has something in it or it's got an infection starting.
Whatever the problems are you need to get them solved asap.
