chameleon wants to come out????

my chameleon leaves leaves all the plants inside his cage and climbs on the cage mesh all the way to the top corner of the cage. i always find him in the top corner like he wants to get out. he ditches the plants and climbs on the mesh walls.....im not sure why....he barely basks too so i dont know whats going on........

One of mine sleeps on the wall at the very top of the cage corner. I think it's a "go for maximum height" thing rather than an "I want out" thing....I could be wrong.

Is the corner getting light?

there is some light ya in the corner......i might raise the whole cage in a couple of days when i get the free time....

If he is barely basking, there is likely a reason why. Go back to the basics and re-check all your husbandry and temps. Have you ever answered the "how to ask for help" questions? If not, now would be a good time to do so along with pictures of your set-up. I do a weekly basic husbandry check up just to make sure all is well.

here is the setup

i took a picture of the setup and the basking spot.... hes basking in the first picture and the setup picture from far to see the whole thing.....the blinds are just closer for the picture but theyre usually open..... i always find him on the opposite side of the basking spot for some reason..... basking spot temp is in the mid 80's and hes about 7-8 months old. male blue bar ambilobe panther chameleon... i feed him superworms, silkworms, and sometimes crickets....i spray 3 times a day....thats about it

the last picture is where he keeps going on the opposite side of the basking spot....

I wouldnt worry about it unless some other thing is weird but he is prob just roaming around. Have you tried letting him out my chameleon does that sometimes except around the bottom becasue he loves to come out. He is prob fine

how high should the cage be.....maybe the cham should be higher than my head??? i think thats a good plan dont you think??

something else i forgot to ask is why does he keep licking all the vines???? he licks randomly whats that about?????

what do you mean come out??? like handling him for a bit??

You should try to put a bare stick horizontal about 6-8 inches from the top. He might like a place to stretch out :)

Personally my cage is about 28" off the floor on a cart i found at bedbathbyond. So the top of my 4ft cage is almost 7.5 feet off the ground. Ive noticed since i raised my cage last week my panther uses the bottom third more than he did before to hunt. He still basks then goes under the uvb then he will roam through his plants more. Also my temps went up about 2 deg after raising.

Panthers are known to lick branches as a way of smelling/identifying their terroritory, mine does it all the time. If you are leaving the blinds open, he probably sees a tree that is swaying and wants to go to it. My melleri did the same thing when I left the blinds opened and would nose rub. I know you have good intentions and want the cham to see the outside world, but if it is stressing him out by wanting to "go there" it would be best to not show him the outside. I would move his cage to a corner of the room and set up an exercise area in front of the window. That way during the day he will spend his time basking and absorbing the UVB and in the evening you could let him out to climb around.

raised cage

my cage is 18 inches off the ground now as opposed to the 4 inches that it was before......i hope i see some good changes..... and i put many horizontal sticks... so he should have a lot of fun running and climbing around....

heres a picture.....

I can't tell what locale he is. I have a male Nosy Mitsio and he's the same way as you described. My female is also the exact same.

Don't know why, they just love exploring.

My guy started doing the same at 5 – 6 months…..licking/tasting the branches and vines. Its cool to watch as they have a forked tongue. :D

Apart from tasting/identifying their environment it also is a sign to see if any other chams have been in their territory, so it sounds like your boy is growing up. He will also start to leave sperm plugs around the place so be on the lookout for that new adventure if he has not started all ready.

I free range my guy as he wants out of his cage at all times and he is just a roamer. Out of the 4 chams that I have kept 3 were content in their cage but the youngest wasn’t so I free range him. If your boy can see the outside world and trees that is where he will head for and focus on. Mine did, his fave spot is the back screened porch door where he can see the outside world and on sunny days get some real uvb.

Also at night if you have the tele on just make sure his cage is covered more so he can settle into sleep when his lights go off.

Your cham looks great in your photos…he is gorgeous :)
