im worried about my young chameleons tounge he missed the locust i had in my hand twice and it just didnt seem as fast as it was and just a little weak?????

Some are also problem aimers till death. when my Outs misses he takes down the 1 gallon bucket, or if its hand feeding you better not let him reel it in. Id say he has a life time achievement of 75% or less.

you too sound like you have a problemw ith your cham.

what are YOU supplementing with?

bug burger gut load mixed with cham's staple gut load ingredients.
sticky tongue farmers outdoor for daily use and indoor for d3 2 dustings a month. vit all 2 dustings a month.

Dubia\cricket gut load is any left over fruit and baby leaf greens ground up and frozen cubed.

Lamps are reptisun 10.0 on top of screen cages(filters out down to 5.0).

Honestly since about 1995 the tongue hit rate is about 75% tops for small feeders. On the other hand they never miss an adult superworm/dubia/pinky.

hmm gutload sounds ok, though i would vary what you feed off.

how many pinkies are you feeding?

Havent done pinkies in about 5 years since i dont have the water dragons/ frilled lizards anymore. At that time it was 1-3 pinkies a month. they just got the left overs as a snack.

Your chams hit the solderflies/crickets/meal worms everytime? Mine only have a 100% mark for the big feeders.

my large veileds and panther dont get soldiers anymore, not worth it, i save them for my baby panther and my hoehnelli.

as for crickets and mealworms, they hit them all. each time. only time my cham missed abug, was when he had a supplement problem, i swiched what iw as using, and in 2 months his aim was 100% accurate.

im using nutrobal and i actually havnt had a chance to gutload because i got my locusts from pets at home and by the second day all the locusts had died!
is there something wrong with my chameleon?

That could be part of your problem. I use Komodo cricket dust most days. ( plain calcium ) and nutrabol every two weeks. My previous two veileds were given only nutrabol because the shop said so and they didn't live very long.

Im with cami on your cham might be lacking in nutrition.

Your not gut loading
Your having die offs

You might want to start off with some fruits and leafy greens, along with some alfalfa/kelp if you can find it in the store. its sold in the rabbit section or i can get it in the horse cookie section.

PS, back in the olden days, i was told powdered calcuim was toxic to crickets/locus, and to only gut load with it the day before feeding, or the food would die off pretty quickly. Not sure if that holds up, but i dont feed my feeders calcium powder.

This is entirely diff than my fleet who seem to not be able to lead the target or have good depth perception 100% of the time, but hey if it just sits there and cleans itself its good as dead :p

ok thank you :)

I wouldn't take it that that is the whole problem. There may be other things in your husbandry that may need looking at. Pets at home bugs are usually awful unless you get them on the day they come in. Have a look at various feeders on line if you can't get them anywhere else locally.:)

great so im already killing my chameleon:( havnt even had him for a month and already ive mucked up  not sure i can handle a chameleon :(

Your not killing the cham, you just need to get the food going. Hell when i got my new one the box of crickets had a hole in it, so no food, and the 2nd box had heat stroke so they all died off in a week.

Its not your fault, you just got it. Its now your job it get it happy and healthy. Just get some good gut loaded food in it and in a month it should be a fixed cham.

Not at all. When we buy an animal we trust the info that we are given at that time. Unfortunately sometimes that info is wrong. Lots of research has been done into Cham keeping and it's great that we can benefit from this knowledge on forums. Your baby is young and you are learning and can change things if you want to. Supplements are so important. Too much of this and not enough of that can make such a difference. The two veileds I had was some time ago and I did not have the knowledge I have now. This forum has made such a difference to the way I keep Popeye and I am definatly still learning. If you want us to look over your husbandry you can fill out the how to ask for help form and we can help you make changes if they are needed. Or you can just ask questions as you go along. Please don't give up we are here to help.:)

ok thank you :) i just feel bad :( he also does this werid thing before he shoots his tougne he does this thing as if hes got something in his moth that he wants to chew then he shoots his tougne?? it haoppens everytime he feeds but only once like he does it on the first locust he gets but then after that shoots his tougne normally?? is it jst him prepering his tougne?

ive also contacted the breeder he recommended changing the supplement to Repton? he also said the aiming on my chameleon is bad just because hes young and still learning

Aim shouldn't be bad because of age.
And the tongue thing, is it like he's licking his lips? If so he's just prepping to aim to eat
