Chameleon tail going crazy

Hi, I have had my flap necked chameleon for 2 months now but last night he started acting extremely weird. It almost looks as if he is wagging his tail from side to side. I did try and upload a video. He does have his food covered with calcium powder and d3

It sometimes seems as if he has no control over it and his tail just goes everywhere. He also does not really use it as much anymore, mostly just curled up or pointing straight up until he starts wagging it around again

Here are some photos as i cant upload a video

Hmm... I dont know that much about flap necks, but maybe it's a defensive thing? Thwack his tale against any nearby "branches" to make himself seem bigger, and less tasty to preditors? Or, maybe a way to attract a mate? I am guessing he is probably getting close to lizard puberty? It will be interested to hear from the more experienced keepers, like @Matt Vanilla Gorilla , and @Decadancin , and @Remkon .

I grew up with them flapneckers and I have never seen one doing that. At times when a chameleon is moved fast and their tail doesn't have a grip on anything their tails will search like that for something to hold onto! My best guess is as mentioned, fear and insecurity can make any of us act strange! There is also the possibility of a electrolyte imbalance. I would get him to a vet to be checked out!

I have seen my cham search around for a grip on something, but it's usually a controlled "poking around" to feel for something to grasp. I have never seen a"wagging" tail. I didn't think about an electrolyte imbalance. When electrolytes are off, you will see some strange stuff!

My Carpet boy used to search for something to hold on with his tail and it went really crazy sometimes! I have noticed my female Panther do it too, so maybe a trait of the Furcifer species, I'm not sure! Here's a video of my Carpet boy's tail doing it's thing!
