Chameleon Sleepaway Camp

Captain Awesome
I’ve got Drew’s collection of chameleons living with me for the next three weeks while he is travelling abroad. (Lucky #$%^&#). So far they don’t like the routine here but I tormented them with the camera anyways because that’s what I do.

I’m really not keen on the Trioceros quadricornis quadricornis but these guys sure are photogenic.

A neat Trioceros cristatus reflection.

Cainyongia multituberculata; annoyed by the lack of beer and metal music here. ;)

Enjoy!

Camera?

If I may ask what type of Camera did you use to take these pics? I could really use a great camera?
:p

I have a Nikon D50 body and if I'm shooting chameleons I mostly use my Tamron 90mm macro lens. I keep small species and that lens lets me get closer to the animals without being obtrusive.

I love the detail you're able to show on the individual scales. The color on the first and last fellow are great, and the second one is just so engaging.

Thanks!

Thanks, I am writting this down so when I can get a new camera I know what is a good quality one to purchase... I looked at the D50 last year and choose another model & I am not happy with it at all..

Me either but that first photo is killer!!! Along with the rest. The multituberculata does look rather annoyed. I think he is due for a Jager bomb, Miller Lite and HEAVY dose of metal!!!:D

Mmmmmm Jager bomb :p

Awesome chams! But just want to know why are you both not keen on the quadricornis? I wish I could get my hands on some of them.

It's so wonderful to see all these more unusual chameleons - I would never get to see them otherwise! That first pic is quite simply fantastic! I would be the same with my camera if I ever got to see any different chameleons! Enjoy them!:D

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their kind comments.

What kind of camera do you have? I am by no means a 'photographer' but it does help to practice with what you've got and know what the lenses' limitations are and work with and around that. I've seen some fantastic shots from simple point and shoot cameras and terrible pics from people who have the latest gadgetry. I have a background in old school visual arts (drawing, painting etc) so that probably helps with how I see things or want my finished product to look. I'll also wait for the shot. I know my animals and chameleons in general and know how they will react in certain situations and anticipate that.

Do you use a flash?

Sometimes. I don't have an external flash. Yet! Unfortunately camera equipment, like the reptile keeping, is an expensive hobby. Why couldn't I pick something like crochet.

I felt bad; he was pretty stressed out yesterday. The boogs have disappeared overnight and there's a poo at the bottom of the cage so he's settling in. Now to make the switch to the far better soca, calypso and reggae tunes. ;)

I don't like the look of them; the combination of fins and horns leaves me cold. Funny enough, I used to say that about the T. cristatus and now I have a pair and think they are way cool. They won't supplant the goetzei or bitaeniatus by any stretch but they do have a certain charm. I think it's their bad attitude. Maybe after 3 weeks of chamsitting the quads I'll change my mind about them?

Cheers,
T

I have only kept cristatus. They were neat chams but sail fins just dont do it for me:rolleyes: I think all chams are neat looking but some just have to be on the bottom of the list. Besides, what is cooler than the one and two horned Kinyongia species???:D
