Hey so my Fiance' and I are new to chameleons and we have done our best to create the best enclosure for our baby veiled. She isnt more that three inches long but just doesn't seem happy. For a while she would eat out of the tongs and seemed pretty content but in the last few days she goes in between almost lethargic and trying to escape her enclosure. She has developed a dark patch on her back near the ridge of her spine that looks suspiciously like a burn, and has stopped taking food from the tongs. We have been putting crickets and worms in and hope she is eating them. in the picture attached you can see the enclosure.
It is a five gallon attached to a ten gallon glass terrarium. I have modded the tank and removed the bottom out of the five gallon and attached it to a ten gallon mesh lid so it can be separated. I wouldn't use glass except I live in a place where if i were to use a full mesh enclosure, I cant maintain humidity for more than ten minutes. the tube in the top is attached to a cold mist ultrasonic humidifier which runs at frequent intervals throughout the day. I try to maintain about 40-70% humidity. there are a couple of live palms in the bottom as well. We have larger enclosures to move her to as she grows, but are unsure if this enclosure is right?
Any clues as to her restlessness? is there a problem with the enclosure? could it just be the burn if it is one? if it is a burn what can I do to treat it?
