Chameleon hearing

so I understand that chameleons can't hear like we do but people have said that they can't hear at all which confuses me because whenever red (my cham) hears a dog bark he gets all defensive so can someone just explain to me chameleon "hearing"

Chameleons are able to ‘hear‘ sounds only in the lower frequency ranges. I’d assume you have a big dog with a big deep bark rather than a little yipper. Most sound waves can also cause vibrations which chameleons are quite sensitive to.
