I bought a bunch of Hornworms from Mulberry and some have shot up to well over 2" and I just got them Thursday. It isn't that hot here either. Anyways can I toss the big ones into the bird feeder? Figure some mother would love them for her chics, and my tomatoes would appreciate it too.

My container of hornworms has a sticker on it that says it's illegal to release the worms and moths as they are considered pests. I wouldn't do it for two reasons. One, since it's illegal, and two, you don't want to start a population of exotic species in a location that doesn't have them in the first place, especially if they are pests.

They're already here. I have parasitic wasps which hunt them in my garden already.

I'm not sure what your asking then.

Will the birds eat them? Probably.

Is it too hot for the worms to live on the bird feeder until the birds eat them? Maybe.

Are they poisonous to birds? Dunno, doubt it.

I just had vision of mother bird, trying to feed her hatchling a four inch hornworm. :) Kinda like us trying to eating a 50 lb. burrito.
