i opened his cage to mist it and as i opened it he literally jumped out and i didnt catch him in time and he hit the floor, it was about a 2ft drop. he got up and started walking just fine, just wondering if anything like this has happen to anybody else???

It happens to everyone. Chameleons are designed to take a fall. Its one of their defense techniques. A fall is a good way to get away from a predator. There is always the risk of injury and its a good idea to keep an eye on them to make sure they didn't tweek something. but 9 times out of 10 they are fine.

My cham has fallen but not in that manner. Just keep an eye on him and hopefully he did not injure himself. Mine was climbing down the cage door clinging to the aluminum and lost his grip. Fell from higher than that, but he was ok thank god.

It's never happened to me but I've heard of other peoples chams getting afraid and falling. Chams are pretty tough. They are known to drop to the ground from large heights when startled. Hopefully your cham is ok. Keep a close eye on it for a few days :)

Like kids!

Yes, Wilson fell from the end table this weekend... he insists on getting on there and of course it has zero grip! I was like OMG! And he was like "what!?"
:p

Owen of course, wasn't he the one who fell???? :D:D Now you quoted me I can't fix it and be sneaky about it. Ugh!!

Damn, I did not know that. Of course I havent watched wrastlin in many years. What a bummer.

To stay on topic:rolleyes: My K. tenuis and oxyrhina will fall and then flop around like a fish out of water. More than likely trying to burrow into tall grass or ground litter.

Don't you worry, my guys fallen in a similar way 1 or 2 times. He often reaches for me when I am opening his screen door and kind of like... i can't explain it. My girlfriend and I call it "praising God." Well he let go of his tail and fell forward cus I didn't put my arm under him fast enough and down went Eskimo C. lol he was fine. : )

hahahah That video is so intense... I don't think I'd keep putting my cham up there just for him to jump off for videos sake. Even if he had a jumping problem (haha)

cantgetagoodsn, that video has been posted on here so many times, lol, it never gets old.. anyways, i will add to the rest saying that chameleons that "jump" do it at their readiness. a part of a chameleons last deffence is jumping, and wether or not it is deffence or just a leap, a fall cannot hurt them. as seen in the video, they can easily and safely jump high distances. their bones are extreamly light in which a fall would not impact them, and when jumping, they inflate themselves with air, kind of a like a balloon. i would only worry about a cham with mbd or calcium deficiencies falling, this could of course break their bones. and a lethargic chameleon that is very weak and cannot grip, i wouldnt lay perch them on branches, but would lay them on a well cushioned towel. but thats besides the point

Those are some good tids of input. I wasn't aware that a healthy chameleon could fall as safely as you say if they're prepared or at their own readiness. That's rad.

my girfriend has had two veileds, her female escaped one time when we were out and we found her on a sun glass rack by her cage all dark and pissy cuz she was gravid, she was hissing and trying to get away and ended up falling, her male was on a plant in the living room, and ive never seen such an angry cham, we went to lure him with a stick and he ended up falling. both on wooden tables, its a scary thing to see cause you think theyve hurt themselves, but no harm done at all. my fischers is a shy guy and will leap for his life when ever he can so i very rarely handle him.
