Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - 6 month old Panther chameleon. I got him yesterday.
Handling - I haven't handled him yet because I want to give him at least a week to settle in.
Feeding - Dubia roaches, I give him about 3-5 3/8" long dubia a day. I feed him one in the morning and then as many as he will eat when I get home from work at 4 pm. He has been eating fine, even though he just moved in yesterday. I gut load the dubia with mixed organic greens, water crystals, and breakfast cereal. I also throw in an apple core or orange peel sometimes.
Supplements - ReptiCalcium, without d3 daily (have put on each dubia) and then with d3 and a multivitamin once a week, haven't used those yet.
Watering - Here is the thing. I currently have a monsoon rs400 set to mist for 2 minutes (the maximum duration) every two hours. After the two minute session most of the leaves in the cage are dripping with dew. I am also using a dripper which I place right the vine he seems to like to drink from. I have only ever seen him "drink" from this vine, and by "drink" i mean dab his tongue out for a split second on a partially wet section of the vine.
Fecal Description - Picture included, will not try to describe as I have no experience.
History - Raised by a professional breeder, seems healthy, no sunken eyes, he is active and eats well. But I am worried about the drinking.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - 24x24x48 screen cage. I have 3 sides covered with shower curtains.
Lighting - Using a 55w halogen bulb for basking, basking spot is 90 degrees farenheit, then I have an 18" UVB 5.0 Tropical strip.
Temperature - 90 basking, 77 ambient, lowest night temperature is in the low 60's. I measure with a temp gauge I was given by the person I bought my cage from, I've measured it against other thermometers it seems accurate.
Humidity - My old gauge was reading 15% which I knew to be BS. I bought a brand new humidity detector off Amazon which arrived today, it is currently reading 64% humidity inside the cage. This is what I was expecting considering the heavy misting AND shower curtains.
Plants - Yes, a ficus benjamina.
Placement - The cage top is as tall as me, 6'. I have it on a two foot tall stand. It is in the center of my room, I have taken care to protect it from air drafts and keep windows closed most of the time.
Location - Orange County, California.

Here is the urate, it had a slight orange tint to it :(

Here is my cham, he is very beautiful already at only 6 months.

Okay so basically the concern is that

1. He doesn't seem to be drinking often

2. I want to set the dripper on the actual leaves I have set up. Right now he seems to only want to drink from the vine he walks/basks on, meaning that after I put the water there he gets dripped on if he walks around. He walks right into the drip and doesn't seem to care, but it would be MUCH better if I could set the dripper on the fake leaves in the back of the cage. He just NEVER seems to be back there! Will he know to go there for water if I change the location of the dripper? I feel like I'm misting enough, he is eating well... I just DON'T see him drink! I have seen him drink twice, and by "drink" i mean dab his tongue out for a split second on a partially wet section of the vine.

I have never owned reptiles or a chameleon before, but I did a lot of research before committing to buying this guy. Just want to make sure he is drinking okay, I know many chams only drink when they're not being watched.

Anyways thanks for the help.

I have a picky drinker too... I mist and use a dripper but end up giving him water with a syringe too. Just take a syringe filled with water and slowly drip it on his nose. If he is thirsty he should drink. I also feed mine hornworms- they have a lot of moisture too. It can be frustrating, but stick with it. Good looking boy!

I just dripped some on his nose, he seemed confused at first then shrinked away. I know that a lot of chams drink when their owners aren't looking. I don' know. I have the mister, dripper, and hand sprayer, he still won't drink at least not in my presence.

I just used the hand sprayer in combination, I didn't spray him directly but he seemed very agitated and now he is hiding in the thick of the ficus tree, which I haven't seen him do.

He has eaten about 7 dubia today, does he at least get moisture from those?

I also just ordered the sampler pack from rainbow mealworms which includes 12 hornworms, I'll start feeding him around 2-3 a week and I hope that helps.

I'm still worried though any other advice?

If he continues to have orange urates you can also try the shower method. Put him on a plant in the shower and aim the showerhead at the wall, not the plant. Use lukewarm water and let him sit in the shower with the indirect spray until he begins to drink.

This morning I used a syringe to drip water into his mouth while he chewed on a dubia. I'm thinking about doing this for 2 dubias a day, although I wouldn't say it's enjoyable and it is tedious/annoying to both me and the cham. I also ordered hornworms, ordered a pressurized mister, and upped the misting frequency. I'm still very anxious I hope he turns out okay.

I just don't understand these animals... What kind of organism will die of dehydration while there's fresh, distilled water being poured all around it?

How often do you use the syringe? Is twice a day (about 25 drops total) enough?

UPDATE: I saw him drinking from his dripper this morning, and his urate was white yesterday!!! Hopefully things keep up.
