Chameleon casque

This has appeared on my chameleons casque very suddenly. Half of his casque looks smooth/ without “scales “ and with a weird red spot/scab. It has appeared suddenly and I haven’t changed anything husbandry related in over a year. What could it be ? Thanks

Its a previous burn that finally sluffed off. Many moons ago he got burnt. It happened "suddenly" because the old skin/scab fell off a few days ago. Lizards take an incredibly long time to get rid of scabs/skin, bite marks might take 6 months to get back to 100%.

A few years ago we had a post "veiled fell off suddenly ", yup it was just the old dead dried out casque finally falling off from a pretty bad burn the keeper didnt even know happened.

He’s two years old. I’ve had him for year and a half
I think this was a prior burn that is just now sluffing off. Based on the look of it. I do not know if he got closer to the bulb by climbing the plants etc but thermal burns happen when they get too close to the heat. And the top of the casque is the most common to be burnt because it rises so much closer.
