Chameleon Always Hiding?

So just yesterday I bought my very first Veiled Chameleon. Its a female. I am not sure of the age so I was going to call earlier. But my main question is whether or not she is supposed to always be hiding? I have her cage set up very nice with a dripper, mister, UVB and Daytime light, lots of branches and sticks and hanging fake reptile bushes. She has a water bowl and food bowl on the bottom. But last night, I observed her going into this one bush and that was her sleeping spot. Is she supposed to stay in that sleeping spot all day? She hasn't really moved out of it at all this morning, but I could just be impatient. I am going to try to feed her today. Should I take her out of her bush?

An adjustment time to a new home is always to be expected. Consider it from her perspective: Everything she has ever known has been taken away, she has been put in a new place where she doesn't feel safe, and a big ape keeps poking its head and hands in her space. She doesn't understand your excitement - she is afraid you might want to eat her.

Give her anywhere from a few days to two weeks to settle in and she will start a new routine for her new home. Give her food and water and leave her alone. It's okay to be in the room so she can see you, but avoid staring into her cage or trying to interact with her.

Believe me - everyone here understands how hard that is! The first chameleon is such an exciting time, you just want to sit there and watch for hours. :)

Have you had a chance to read through all the great information here? A few resources that will be very helpful to you:

Also, it's important if you can find out about how old she is. Female veileds lay eggs, so at a certain age, she must have a bin:

Welcome to the forums! This is a great group of incredibly knowledgeable people who love chameleons. However - our help is not free. For payment, we demand photos of your new little girl! :D

Haha! And yeah that is what I figured. Like I said, I will call in and find out how old she is. And pictures will soon be coming! Thank you for your help!

Hi

Yes this is completely normal.
Do not try touching her whatsoever, she'll trust you even less.
Do you have a laying bin?
Finally, they won't really drink from a water bowl so the dripper is fine on it's own.
Hope that helps...

Awesome! Thank you! I am very happy now because she just came out and is walking around exploring her new home. I dusted and put some crickets in and she gobbled em right up! They truly are amazing creatures! And I appreciate every ones help!

And I am going to feed her crickets and maybe some super worms. I dust the crickets with NON D-3. Do you have any other suggestion on her diet? I plan on introducing some small fruits later on.

Yay! She's on her way to getting comfortable. It just takes some time.

She may really like superworms or hornworms. You can get those from a couple of different sponsors of the forum. Get "smalls", especially if you get hornworms - they grow very fast.

I don't have a veiled, so I am not sure about which fruits - do some research on the forum - raspberries might be a big hit and some keepers provide leafy greens, too.
