Good day everyone

This is my second post, 2 days ago i went to pet store there was 4 Chamaeleo Africanus 1 of them was in very bad condition, i think all of them are wild caught because no one here breed Chameleons, and even store owners no nothing about them not even how to feed them or make them drink, i decided to pick the weak one, maybe it was bad idea coz he could die anytime, but it was good for me in this moment, hope he will survive. I can tell that he was so thirsty, and he was starving like he didn't eat or drink for days his grip is so weak, he can't climb, or hold anything with his grip, beside his color is not green like others, its more close to yellow, or like desert color. I'll show some pictures of him, i don't know what to do should i take him back and get another one or keep him. I'll post some pictures of him to see, another thing I'm so new with chameleons, and i don't know how to know if he is an adult or not.

This Photo after 1 hour from picking him to my home I was making him drink with my sister and he kept drinking for like 5 minuts

Good luck everyone with your Chams

Regards for all

I am a sucker for the weak and runty too. It can be hard because you become attached and if they die it's terrible! He looks a wee bit better after a good long drink. We're you able to find out how often and what the pet store was feeding. I know in my pygmy chams the yellowing tint is stress, but in this case looks like dehydration and malnourishment. poor little guy, good luck with it.

I'm sure he is dehydrated, but i don't know if this yellow color coz of dehydration!!!

I don't think the store owner know how to feed them, they only have some greens, no bugs no supplementation, i'll take a picture for how he keep them in his store.

I would go to the next veteriarian to report this. If this would be a shop in Germany, the shop boss would get massive problems

i would definetly report the shop to the correct authorities. This is horrible!! I reported a small "pet shop" to the local human society in long beach and they closed the place down. It was horrible. All the animals were in poor conditions. It pissed me off how bad ALL the animals were being taken care of. Or lack there of.

At the very least, try to educate the folks at the store. Chameleons eat insects, not greens. Talk to them about proper misting, lighting, etc.

This poor cham would have been way better off being left in the wild, if that's where he's from.

Good luck with this little guy.

Hello,
even if i´m really reliefed you saved this poor guy right now, it would have probably been better to leave him there and contact a vet. Even if this sound very hard, it is better to not buy weak animals in stores where they are kept under bad conditions. The only thing this will cause, is a higher income for the owner of the shop which supports the kind of thing he or she is doing. Did he eat something by now?

It looks like you are doing a great job of getting that poor chameleon back in shape!!!! It would be a shame to have it go back to the pet store to be let die.

I went to the store today and i taught him how to give them water & what to feed them, I found that they didn't eat anything or drink for like 4 days, I decided to keep this one I want to give him a name. what about(Lucky)?
I bought another one from the same store but he or she look way better than the first one & he still a baby, wish i could get them all & take them to the wild.

About the feeding yes i fed them some Raochs & Grasshoppers mixed with Cuttlebones powder

Glad to hear he has eaten finally. No wonder he looked so awful with no food or water for 4 days! I bought a pygmy brev female about 6 weeks ago, and when I got her home discovered a broken back leg. took her back and watched as she got worse with no vet care and very gravid with no where to lay housed in 12x 12x 18 with 4 other species of reptiles. Brought her back to my house a week ago. Now she has a dirt bottom to lay, but leg cannot be saved too much damage so she will be a tripod. Not everyone can handle "rescue" situations, but there are more I think who cannot watch anything suffer.

I'm so sorry for your Cham, you did well to take her back home, so kind from you, i hope she will be fine soon, wish you good luck with her.
