Cham not Eating

Hi,

Ive had my baby veiled for 5 days now and he's only eaten once. He drinks a lot and is active but he walks straight past the locusts as though theyre not there. Is this normal?

I would try a different food item if I were you. Try some crickets or something, how large are the locusts are you giving him?

And try meal worms(Don't over do it though because the chitlin in the shell can cause a blockage and prevent him from passing waste) superworms(smaller super worms) some wax worms, but you really want to limit the wax worms, I would just say try to give him more variety than locusts if you can. He will eat if hes hungry though so maybe give it another day and then try. Are you letting them free range btw? If you can I would try let them do that if you are hand feeding, they tend to be a bit shy with eating like that until they get used to you. And maybe try making a feeder where you can set the locus in there and let him get to them from a perch.

welcome to the forum! :)
its normal for them to take up to a week or a little more to get used to their new enviroment and not eat much during that time. its good that hes drinking well and active!
i agree with isa with trying something else. most chams like crickets and babies love fruit flies :)
how big are the locusts? the general rule of thumb is not to feed your cham something that is wider then the space between the chams eyes, they may choke on it. if they are too big he could be avoiding them for that reason. also, if they are not too big but really close and he ate one, he might still be purty fill from that one. has he pooped? i also think you should make a feeder cup, that makes it easy to see what he's eating and easy for him to find his food!
this blog has great ideas for feeders, https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/74-feeders.html
