My friend went to the Hamburg PA show and bought a baby Senegal. I know I told him not but... Anyway he left on the screen of a fishtank he stood sideways. He forget about tit and did some other stuff and remembered an hour later. Well he wen t back into the room and it's gone. I even helped him look for it and can't locate it anywhere. The tank was on a night stand so not sure how a 3" cham got off. I thought maybe the cats or dog got it. I checked the litter box and nope. ANy ideas how to track it down?

well first of all, you need to shut the door and not allow any cats/dogs in that room

then look up in blinds.

Around plugs / computers / tvs / desks etc. He may be perched on a cord somewhere. It is near a warm spot and it resembles a vine.

If its not in a room go look around behind refrigerators/washers

Under the couch

Under the bed

Before you move anything make sure you look at the place you are putting it and place it there(empty floor, dont sit it on anything that has clothes etc.) If you pick something up make sure you look top and bottom before putting it down

Also, look down to where you are going to put your first footstep, then the next, and the next. The funniest (and of course the best part) is when you find them, they usually have been staring at you the entire time.

My observation has been anything that resembles wood or is dark colored like wood. Leo tried to climb on my headboard since its Oak or on the sticks I have in a pot.. Plants...

and secondly, Get that out of a tank, especially one sideways..tahts not adequate at all.. If he is lucky enough to be found alive..

and how long ago did he lose it..I see you said Checked the litterbox..it takes a while to be digested if that was your thought..God Forbid..

I'm helping my friend locate it in his house, but we still can't find this guy. The room is on the second floor so no washers/dryers. Just 2 bedrooms, office, bath and then the stairs. If it 3 or 4 inches long how far can it stretch to climb. I am ythinking it might have climbed up some clothing in the closet. Also, do you think it could fit in the heating vent? the opening is first vertival and the inside is horizontal. The vertical ones measure 7/16 of an inch. The inside horizontal is much wider and can probably fit.

Just be careful if you are tearing things down as he might be hidden inside of it. Check HIGH as everyone is stating, near a light source as its natural to want to bask during daylight.

Betty, I assumed the cats played with it then buried it after boredom. Anyway, we found it alive. It was on the hanger of coltes in the closet. Yes, I agree it must be out of a tank. Some people don't listen.

Well you can read through many threads on the front few pages here and see where Not listening gets you. That Cham will die of stress. Ben came to me in a 40 gallon turned sideways.. Terrible. You can find reptariums super cheap at lllreptile.com In fact, their 260 gal is only 69.99 plus shipping.. I hope this is a lesson learned.. and glad he is "safe" so to speak.

Betty, I'll take a look at thread. I have mine in a makeshift mesh net laundry bag I bought for $1 just to get it out of a tank. Seems okay so far. I planned to build a bigger cage today but its snowing here. I will wait til tomorrow. While at it guess I'll build a small one for my friend.

(Speechless)...
Check ebay too.

I bought 3 reptariums 36ga,65gal,and175gal, off craigslist.org for $50 including shipping! All are used but in pretty good shape. Minor cosmetic damage like the burns from the heating bulbs on top of the cage.. Hope it gets taken care of ASAP..

and Yea, we got about 1/8 inch here. Hubby is in Arkansas and says they got 8 inches so far...

Next time, turn off all your fans and tell him to remove the animals to outside or in a cage.

Don't forget lights! If your cham doesnt have UVB light he WILL die.

Please you and your friend read this before continuing:

It's very short, and very simple to read. 20 min of you and your friend's time for his pet is really nothing considering how much time you guys probably spent looking for the guy.

Sadly, a chameleon is nothing like a dog or other lizards. If it doesn't recieve the special care it needs, you and your friend will have a sad, stressed, dehydrated critter on your hands with MBD. Nobody wants that.

Stick around, ask alot of questions, and hopefully your friend is more receptive towards helping his chameleon have a good habitat, because if not there may be some horrible consequences. But if you follow the easy husbandry outlines there, you should have one happy little camper on your hands.
