Cham loses toe nails

I was watching my cham yesterday through the screen and noticed that he was having a problem with his right rear foot. He lost his toenails! I was keeping him in a large reptibreeze so I figured the screen got em. Looking around at the screen and sure enough there is what looks like a cham toenail and a lot of skin. Vet says screen steals toes.

I had a parrot cage standing idle so looks like that is going to be Champs new home. He seems to dig it.

Lights coming from the side of the cage....? You need to get rid of them ASAP. Any lights need to be coming from above. Lights from the side will hurt your chameleon's eyes. The bird cage is fine otherwise.

Are those lights on the left side of the cage? If they are, you need to get rid of them ASAP. any lights need to be coming from above. Lights from the side will hurt your chameleon's eyes. The bird cage is fine otherwise.

Oh thanks didn't know! Doing it now!

Well the bird cage didn't work out, too many escaped bugs. Wife says no.

I lined they reptibreeze with a diy bamboo jungle gym. My dude is staying on the bamboo now. Thank goodness.

I went ahead and got some plastic chicken fencing. It's not nice looking but it should be quick and do the job till my girl stops climbing the darn screen.

There are a lot of people who do the same, works great but I don't like the look. I suppose I am a little stuck up but looks are important to me. The main thing is to keep them from ripping toe nails out.

Sounds fun. Bird cage was a good idea, too bad the bugs escaped. That would have been interesting. Anyway, hope you have luck with your Cham dude. I didn't know side lights hurt chameleon eyes, but it makes sense I guess.

We went to the vet right away when it happened. She cleaned it up and said the same thing. Champ has been doing great since then.

Thanks for the advice!

We learn something new everyday it seems. I guess I didn't think of it. The sun is on the side in the morning and evening so I didn't think it would matter. But the experts are smarter than me, they have been doing it a lot longer than me. I value they're advice.
