Cham food/Colour

I've been wondering this for a few days, might be a silly question to ask so I do apologize if it is haha.

Does whatever you feed your chameleon in terms of insects or the gutloading for the insects affect the colour on your chameleon in anyway? Whether the colours get darker/brighter or just change the way they develop.

Thanks in advance!

Ivan! :D

I think that is a great question! I think the healthier you feed your chameleon the better it is going to look, of course. I know there are members on here trying out new supplements and things and they say they have noticed an improvement in the color of their chameleon. Now, on the other hand, some chameleons are just genetically more beautiful than the other and there is nothing you can change about that. I do believe that you can enhance your chameleons overall appearance with a healthy diet, but I am not sure if there is anything proven that says certain foods will actually make their colors brighter or bolder. i have never heard of any kind of food in particular that will make a chameleons color better. Just my opinion here.

Thank you Carol! Just the response I was looking for! :D:D

All of what you said is very true. Well said:D
But I have come to find out that I have changed some stuff in my gutload this past year and all of my chams have gotten a lot more yellow coming out in there faces. Now weather it is genetics or gutload I am not 100% sure but I can tell you that most wc that come in loss there yellow on there faces over time mine have not. And my cb panther has gained a lot more yellow in his face. I am trying to prove to my self that what I have changed is what made the difference
And we also breed and raise Japanese koi fish and depending on how much you want to spend on the food is how good your koi look I started with a very cheap food and had orange and off white koi. And since I have moved them to a Japan made food with natural color enhancing food mixed in to it they are super white and red.
So I think genetics and food both make a difference. JMO.

Remember, animals that lose and replace pigmented parts of themselves are more likely to show benefits of diet. Think about the pigments in bird feathers or pelt or hair of a mammal. You can "color feed" a bird but the effects will only last as long as the new feathers grown after that. But reptiles shed the top layer of skin, not the layer where the color is. Their colors aren't lost or replaced. A healthy cham can look better than a sick one but the reason is different.
