Cham eating dirt

I just got my new panther chameleon from flchams on Tuesday morning. I am concerned because he is uninterested in his food and ate some dirt on Tuesday. The dirt did not have anything harmful in it but I am still worried. I covered up with some very large river rocks right away. Now its Thursday and he still hasn't eaten and keep going to the river rocks at the bottom of the plant as if looking for an area I forgot to cover. Could he be eating dirt from the stress of being shipped?

I heard from a member on here they can eat the dirt if they are not getting much nutrients from the food. My chameleon used to do that but i took huge rocks and covered it up. make sure every rock is larger than his head so he cant swallow it and die. After the rocks are there he will realize that he ant eat anymore dirt and then you can hope he will begin to eat again. Hope this helps.

If you have only had him since Tuesday he just needs some time to adjust to his new surroundings and the shipping process. Make sure he has some privacy and he will eat soon enough but the most important thing is to keep him hydrated.

Just cover the rest of the dirt up with large river rocks like you have and that will stop him...they do eat dirt occassionally.

Congratulations on your new cham :)
