Ceramic Heat Bulbs

Now that winter is getting near I have decided to get Ceramic Heat Bulbs for my chameleon cages.

The question I have is, what wattage would be appropriate? I haven't use them in a long time and can't remember the wattage/heat output.

I can't imagine you'd need anything really strong. As long as the cages stay above 55-60 for adults the wattage needed wouldn't need to be very high. Now, if you want the temps to be a little more toasty at night try something medium, perhaps 60-70w? I don't know the wattage they come in, I'm just going off normal bulbs. At any rate, I imagine you can raise up the heaters a little more if you need a lower temperature. That way you can lower them if you have a really horrible night and the temps drop significantly.

Like here (and I know it's Fl, bear with me lol) we might a coldest temp of 40-50 most of winter. But we might get a wave where it drops to 30 or lower at night and that's when suddenly you realize that the cham room is much colder than it has been! So you have that option for the worst nights/days of the year.

I can't help you decide what size will yield what temperature, but I just want to add my agreement with olimpia- my chams go down to right at/slightly above 50 at night during the winter and they do fine- even babies. 50 is what I consider the cutoff for safety and I get pretty close each winter. In most home situations I doubt extra night heating is necessary...
