Care of kinyongia oxyrhina

Unfortunately, without any warning, the male died during the night last night. He was doing great, eating, drinking, very active... so it was a shock when I went to see him this morning. The girl is doing wonderfully and, thanks to showjet95, the now lone female will be getting a mate...

The 2nd male arrived just a few minutes ago...here is a picture right after I put him in his enclosure

he's beautiful. im really sorry about your loss of your first male. i hope this goes better for you.

So glad he got there safe and sound! I always stress when these super rare delicate chams are being shipped, I actually lost sleep over it:)
Anyways, keep the humidity way up w these, he loves to drink and is one of the only chams Ive had that doesnt seem to mind getting directly misted on (I think he likes it):) You should see him when hes aggitated, his colors will impress you for sure! keep the pics and updates coming please, we all wanna know how this pairing works out! Too bad I didnt get your female and could have kept my male...oh well lol

I know, I was thinking the same... I guess things never seem to work out as expected. I noticed that with the misting already, he does seem to enjoy it :) I'll keep updates about them coming...

That is such a bummer. Glad to see the male got there fine and hopefully the female will not surprise you in that kind of way. Lets hope for some breeding soon!!

Lets hope for some breeding soon!!

I sure hope so, I've actually noticed that the female is less shy since the male arrived today - could also be that she is getting used to me. They're in separate enclosures, of course, but can visually see each other...

I want more pics of the female!!! The male looks good in your pics so I am wondering what happened there. Sometimes that is just how it goes though:eek: The male you got today has been tossed around the forums for a reason;)

How is the male reacting to the female?

The male hasn't really shown any interest in the female yet, but I'll see how he/she react over the coming days.

Here's a pic of the female and a couple of the male from the day before he passed. I'll take some more of the female today and get them posted later.

To be honest, I would wait a month before I introduce them for breeding. I'm sure shipping from Tanz was difficult enough on them. You will want to make sure they're eating and drinking well before you make any introductions. I am SUPER jealous btw  they're beautiful animals.

Thanks! Yeah, I was planning on waiting, just since they have visual contact I was going to see how they react to one another...

That's right Adam. When I get imported chams I keep them at first seperate and give them to drink as often as possible. After 2 or 3 days they get something to eat too.
The care at reseller was probably not optimal so you should start slowly

the male that died does not look anything like the one that was pictured in the for sale ad on kingsnake...hmmm

Nope, he looked quite different from in the ad... noticed that as soon as he arrived. Although I believe it was the same animal, just angle/lighting/etc was different...

ya thats odd. I wonder where that other one that was pictured is...I wouldnt be too happy receiving a diff one then was pictured, and the one you got was an adult not sub adult like the one pictured.

Unfortunately most importers do not change their pics in ads. They have a good pic of a nice specimen from some unknown point in time and send you what they want, have or if they have a bunch then you get the one that will most likely die first so they can "off" that animal and get their dough before its too late. Its a very sad game. I couldnt import WC animals because I couldnt send a sickly animal to someone. Therefore, I would lose a lot of money. The exporters do not make it easy either. A lot of animals show up in poor shape and for one to turn a profit they would have to off those animals ASAP and keep the ones that will survive to sell later.

I am not directing this to any specific person or talking about the F1 species from Tanzania. Those have all been good animals for me. This is just a general statement;)
