CANV complex....

This is a great article. It helps clear up a question I have always wondered about CANV cross infection between humans and reptiles. While I'm sure humans can still be the vector for reptile-to-reptile transmission, at the studied family of CANVs don't seem to be infectious to humans.

From the precis:
"Human-associated species were not recovered from reptiles, and reptile-associated species were recovered only from reptiles, thereby mitigating concerns related to zoonosis."

The Parsons and lateralis in the first study of CANV were my chameleons....and we (vet, Dr. Pare and me) were handling them with our bare hands because the original lesions looked just like scabs from rubs. We were then told it could be trichophyton and figured we might end up with that...then the fungus had been suspected to be several other fungal types before being finally named CANV. I was definitely relieved to find out that the one my chameleon's had was not transmitted to humans.
