I hope this isn't too bold to suggest...but you might try offering the woman some sympathy. Geeze, she's living in home her husband owns with another woman? That's demoralizing no matter how you look at it. She probably tries to control you and your room because it's the only part of the house she feels she can lay claim to. Perhaps if you acknowledged she has at least that much power in the house she lives in, she would be more inclined to leave your things alone.
Which gets me back to: ask her what she needs to be okay with the insects. What if they are in the garage? What if you rigged up a bin in the back yard? (I don't know where you live so can't say whether that's feasible. I keep my cricket in a storage shed in the backyard and that will be fine all year here).
Acknowledging that she does, in fact, have some control might loosen her up quite a bit.
It's at least worth a try.
