I am up late most of the time and dont want to be disrupting my cham's sleep schedule with the lights from my room, would a canopy covered in a dark black material be a good idea to cover his cage during the day? I was thinking of something like this

But obviously in a darker material. This way im not draping my clothing over the cage which could cause a fire when the lights come on in the morning and I'm not awake to take it off for another 2-4 hours later.
So any ideas if this would be a good or bad idea?

I find that my chameleons love being draped in lace. Princess stickers also help them feel more at home. ;)

Joking aside, I don't think that will have much effect. I would either use a dim light or put something more substantial, like a sheet, up. Hang it between the light and the cage. If you put it on the cage, just take it off before you go to sleep.

see I was thinking something like sheet material to hang on the canopy that way it would be thick, and I have no way to hang a sheet up other then draping it and right now im worried about the fire hazard that would be of having a sheet over the lights for several hours until I wake up =/

For keeping light out, I use black painter's plastic from a hardware store (the stuff that is put down to protect items that should not be painted). I cut it to the size of the cage and hang it on hooks secured with suction cups or glue/tape depending on if it is a glass or mesh cage. It can be folded up when not in use.

Definitely not as pretty as fabric but much more resistant to fire and if custom fit to the cage it doesn't even get close to heat.
