cankles?

What is the point of your post? I have noticed Rocko's back right ankle slightly swollen but haven't been too concerned. Should I be?

hi Donna, my point is only to ask if this is normal... looks like we have the same question. i too have noticed a little bulge on rear ankles, right before the foot.

:) I haven't been too worried about it and I know it's not Edema. It isn't like massive swollen or I would be worried. It just appears slightly bigger than his other ankles. I've checked online to see if I could find out anything with no luck. Maybe we can get an answer.

Well we've had 49 views and no answers, I guess we're okay. We just have a couple of "crankley" chams, LOL. :D

When chameleons get gout it often shows up in the ankles first as a swelling...but don't panic, it could be "nothing" too. Just keep an eye on it and if it swells more then I would worry.

What specific supplements are you using and how often for each?
Are you feeding it anything but insects?
What are you specifically feeding the insects?

Is the chameleon getting enough water? (Urates, white?)

I have an adult male panther and I feed gutloaded supers(collards, yams, carrots, zuchinni and oranges), horn and silk worms/moths, he won't touch crix or dubias. I don't use D3 except 2x a month, he gets natural sunlight at least 1-2 hrs a day and about 4 hrs a day on weekends and urates are very white. Supplements are plain calcium 2x a week and herpivite vit suppl 2x a month. I use Reptaid 3 days first of each month.

my staples are crickets and dubia gutloaded with cricket crack, i throw in oranges and other greens too a few times a week. I stick to these besides the occasional super.

Urates are good.

supplements (for 5 month old) is calcium nearly every feeding, d3 once a month, and herptivite (contains preformed vit A) once a month.

My cham definitely has cankles but i don't think it's a problem kinda looks funny tho:D I think it gives my cham character. :p

i'm going to try to get pics later this evening, but there's no telling if the lizard will cooperate. he's going through a cranky phase right now.

well i hope no one minds, i grabbed these pics off of the gallery bar, but this is similar to what I'm talking about in the rear ankles.

cankles or gout?
not suggesting in anyway that your chameleon has gout. it is normal for chams to have that little wrist ball, but larger (ankles) should be considered with care. IMHO
