Can you keep too many locusts together???

I was looking for the awnser, I couldn't find it so I was going to post the question yesterday but thought about it and decided not to.... in hindsight I now am for future users.

I got 4 tubs of locusts but only had a small tank, I thought as they swam they shouldn't mind being close to each other. As long as they have enough food they shouldn't kill each other. ?.
Well I put loads of food in plenty to climb on put them on the heat mat and went to bed...
this morning over half are dead!

I have 2 options... the lettuce had somthing on it? but I think they'd all be dead.

So the conclusion is... they ate the lettuce, then pooed out the lettuce. Poo is damp + heat mat makes ALOT OF CONDENSATION resulting in many dead locusts, what a waste of money :(

I keep quite a lot together in a tub without much issue. I don't use any heat mats though. They are room temp and do fine.

My Veiled will only eat juvenile locust (third hoppers) and I generally buy between 60 and 80 each week, all at the same time.

When I get them home, I transfer them into a large, well ventilated keeper tank into which I put leafy greens, half an orange and some strawberries, a soaked sponge and bug grub on the bottom. I also put in half an egg box for them to hide under. I don't heat the tank but if the sun is out, I put them outside for half an hour a day as they seem to appreciate the sunlight.

A few die each week, but never more than about 10 or 12 and they all seem to live together quite harmoniously. I put fresh food in for them twice a week and into a clean tank halfway through the week.

thanks

Actually not that many had died when I cleaned it out lol but anyway. Ive only resently started using the heat matt but im trying to get some colonies started dubia roches, locusts, and silkworms :) they all breed better when a little warmer :) :D
