Can you guys help me to identify exactly what kind of Jackson Chameleon that I have ?

And is it a male or female? I was told that it was an adult male. I've seen it drink water but not any crickets that I have offered. I bought him yesterday. Didn't realize there were subspecies until researching further. Thanks in advance

I definitely don't think he's an adult... unless he was really poorly kept? I have never seen such poor horn growth in an adult male. He has too long of horns for sure for him to be female. Can you get a picture more of his face? His legs worry me a bit, not with bone disease or anything, but just how skinny they are. Jackson's have relatively chubby legs compared to most species around the same size. Do you know his measurements in length? Or his weight in grams at all? I wouldn't expect him to eat right away, that's pretty normal. Do you know for certain he is wild caught or captive bred? How long are your misting him for? What are your basking temps?

That looks as though you have got a emaciated male Trioceros jacksonii xantholophus.

I have four panther chameleons that I got at Kammerflauge Creations. Doing beautifully from the start. They eat out of my hands. This little guy I saw at a pet store. There were two in there. One was laying at the bottom of the cage. I asked owner why and he said because there are two males in there and one has to be submissive. I felt so bad that I bought the one that was on the screen. Like a rescue. As I was leaving I asked approx hatch date and he says that it was wild caught. I wouldn't even put him in room with all of my other frogs and chameleons. I have seen him drink water from a dripper. I auto mist my panthers. I've been missing this one about three times a day. I've only had him a couple of days. He watches the crickets like he is interested but almost acts like he doesn't know what they are. Poor guy

Yeah he looks like he hasn't had good supplementnig or food etc for a while. He might show more interest in flies at the moment. Jackson's tend to, especially when they are wild caught. He will need a really good shower in my opinion if he's not on your auto mist system. And you will need to mist him regularly at misting sessions for at LEAST 5 minutes at a time, make sure you time yourself to make sure he is getting at least that. If he ends up eventually doing well and coming up negative with parasites or any signs of parasites are not there he can be safely moved into your reptile room. I have a female wildcaught who was moved into my reptile room after a couple months. Do you know your supplement schedule for montane species? He will need something different than panthers.

If he's wild caught you should probably be prepared to give him your house as a habitat. Just kidding, although that is pretty much what happens with us nerds.
Wild caughts do need a TON of space to thrive, though.

Why do you say that? Being wild caught does not necessarily mean they need a lot of space. Some animals do not thrive when caged but they can be captive bred or wild caught.

I agree with what Janet says. Certain species, whether WC or CB do have more issues being caged. Some chameleons individually have more issues. It depends. Most Jackson's from what I have seen do fine in cages as a majority. Though there are always a few who don't.
