can you boil fake vines?

just curious if you can boil fake vines? or will they like.. melt or start falling apart...maybe no ones tried it. thought it was worth asking.

as some of you may know my cham got coccidia somehow and the vet had to order in ponazuril and it should finally be there tomorrow or within the next few days... im just preparing to clean everything. ive read really hot steam can kill coccidia but i dont know where i could get a steamer like that...ive also read you can use a strong peroxide so ill be picking up some of that soon... but i know for sure boiling water will kill it so i know i can fit vines in boiling water...not sure if they will make it out though.

also ive been reading some threads mentioning stinky poo - do you think coccidia could cause that as well? considering where they hang out im thinking thats the case but im not sure. i never thought anything of it till i read that it wasnt supposed to smell. hope it goes away after he is treated or we have another problem on our hands already..

I've never BOILED any of the fake vines or plants. I do have a double boiler which I use as a steamer though and that works fine. Kinda like the things you make spaghetti in - the b ottom pan has water and the top pan is usually a colander of some sort. I just put in about an inch of water, bring it to a boil, put the plants in the colander part and let the hot steam work its magic.

You will need high temperatures to kill the coccidia if there are any oocyst on the vines.

lol.. in order to not steer away too much from the original thread. Yes, I have use steam cleaner.
I am a bit ambivalent about it.
I love the fact that I can clean without using harsh chemicals.
However, as far as the effectiveness, I cannot be 100% positive; UNLESS, if you are using one of this monster:

You want the steam that come out from the nozzles to be as hot as boiling water temp to effectively obliterate parasites (esp coccidia), mold, etc etc.
I found that the cheap steamers simply does not release hot vapor by the time it came out from the nozzles.
It almost felt like I am cleaning with a tiny leaf blower.

when i clean my housing vines and stuff i just throw them in the washer and turn it on but i don't use any soap i just use the hot water

I guess it only really depends on the quality/ material that the vine is made of.........most won't have been made to be steamed or boiled as a matter of course, but I imagine most will be able to handle it without falling apart straight away. I guess the infection would probably make the poos smell stronger, but it's never totally odourless of course...........just regarding the peroxide don't make it too strong.....check up for a reasonable dilution, it is dangerous if it's too strong......

My self i use a food grade sanitizer the brand i use is lobactan.(there are many!) It is not toxic and kills all the bad bacterias at low temps. When the clean item drys the chemical is gone as long as it is mixed right.It works like bleach without the toxic smell and residue. If theres a cash&carry resturant supply store in your area, they will sell it to you.

Coccidia as an oocyst is very durable and generally only dies at high temps.
