Can someone please explain this to me?

For the last couple of days my Panther Chameleon Ziggy has been following around my Giant Meller’s Chameleon Melissa. Melissa is mildly ticked off but Ziggy makes no aggressive overtures and is, as always, a perfect gentleman.

Can anyone explain this?

I had a male veiled that I let free range with my mellers, and I had to get give him to a friend because he would climb on the mellers and harass them terribly.

I'd keep them separate, it doesn't look like Melissa is too happy with Ziggy pestering. Who knows why he's suddenly so interested but it's likely that the Meller's will end up giving him a bite he won't forget and we don't want that.

Good thought!

Melissa is the biggest chameleon I've ever seen. I have not even seen a bigger Parson's.

However, they have been coexisting in the free range together for over a year now.

They may have been coexisting fine until now but obviously something has changed and he's now annoying her. Dynamics change sometimes. So I'd move Ziggy into his own separate free range in a different area of the house, to prevent issues.

At certain times of the year some chameleon species will form pairs and remain in close proximity to each other for some time (you often see them roosting in close proximity). This is presumably so the male is near the female when she becomes receptive, can breed multiple times with the female and can keep other males away. It may be that your male senses that its becoming that time of year (at least for F. pardalis) and it starting to take on that behavior, which is irritating your T. melleri. Given that there seems to be some irritation being shown between them, I would also recommend separating them.

It is impolite to refer to her as large.

We like to refer to her as a plus size gal.

She has big bones and a healthy appetite.

I got Clouseau a little over a month ago and have been curious to see how he and Omar would react to each other, but i have visions of little Clouseau on the business end of Omar's tongue, so they remain strangers.:D

Never, ever trust a Veiled. Thank G-d Ziggy had been studying Crane Style Kung Fu before he encountered Osama.

I resent that above statement. Frita is trustworthy. Yes she might occasionally attack me out of no where and tries to crap on my hands when I'm cleaning her cage but this is simply her way of telling me she loves me. I just tell people when they ask where I got that bruise that I fell down the stairs or the doorknob ripped off my newly manicured fingernails. She does these things out of love.

Ps. You're right, she isn't large, she is "athletic". If she played sports she would be a line backer. Or the horse they ride in polo. :) Or one of those sled pulling chams you guys were talking about the other day. Either way, I hope you separate them, or he might become Melissa's afternoon duck replacement.

OOOOOHHHhhhh, the infamous Kolderplezium has resurfaced again. Just watch, soon peeps will want them even more than a Parsonii.

MelleriCan Seem Calm, But Yours Looks Irritated. Low Level Stress. Her Color And Position IndicateThat She Is Very Much Aware Of The Other Chameleon. Given space, Melleri Can Get Along With Others...Sonetimes. All It Takes Is One Time Though, And Your Panther Is Dead On The Floor With A Missing Limb/Crushed Skull/Bloody Wound. Melleri Can Be So Calm And Friendly And Dangerous.

I don't trust my veiled around panthers! Last time he accidentally met a friendly panther he tried to mount him and then bit him after the panther turned not green. Not cool man. The panther however just kinda sat there and didn't even care until the veiled started feeling him up. My veiled is a creep!

This Ps made me laugh a good bit. Thank you :)

Frita doesn't have anyone to creep on yet, but I do plan getting a panther. I want to free range after seeing some of these set ups. I'll look more into it during the summer when I start taking her outside. Ga summers are hot.

@antar-I was laughing pretty hard when I wrote it. Though I hope Melissa doesn't have access to the internet I don't want to give her a complex. I kid I kid. She is big and beautiful. She is the Serena Williams of the Cham world. ;)

This is the only time she comes to the front when she thinks I have a raspberry. Otherwise she stays at her basking area. If I come in her cage as of her reaching 6 months old heads will roll.
