Can Jackson's hear?

I have read up on how Chams hear. Some by detecting vibrations and others by creating their own. I was wondering how Jackson's hear. Sometimes I see mine wake up as if startled by a sound, I just wondered how he did this.

i am glad that someone else asked this because ive been wondering the same thing about my jackson.
hopefully we get some replies :)

technically, yes. all sound is vibrations. vibrations can travel with friction, and many other means of "travel". the main ways vibrations are conveyed is through air and ground. we, humans, have "ear drums" which detect slight vibrations in the air and we "hear" them. we also detect vibrations on the ground, through our hands and feet.
chameleons on the other hand lack an "ear drum", so they are unable to detect small vibrations (i.e. a whisper, or a normal talking voice). they can, however detect large vibrations that shake air molecules like hell (i.e. a subwoofer, or a scream)
The other way chameleons can "hear" is through vibrations they receive through the ground.

I thought they had an "ear drum" but lacked the external canal that let sound waves hit it. Maybe I'm wrong on that.

However, they can sense vibrations (just as deaf people can, possible more so).

I've also seen people post that their chameleons seem to dream and if that's the case, then "startle" when sleeping might well just be dream related.
