Cameron...

Cameron is 6 months old now, and no where near the size a 6 month old Veiled should be. He is the son of Lombardi, Grandson of my Leon. Most of his siblings have perished prior to 6 months. This was an Oxytocin induced clutch, incubated for a normal time. He is half the size of the female I have from Jann that is just now 4 months old. The encouraging thing is that he has doubled in size in the 6 weeks I have had him, but still one can almost watch Veileds grow before their eyes, and this one is not. He only shows his patterning when he is mad, unlike 6 month olds. I get the results of his first fecal back this week, but I am not anticipating anything coming back.

Hey Rob-they are about the same size it looks like.

People-healthy 6 month old Veileds should never look like this. They should be much larger. Lombardi was this size at 2 months when I sent him to Joe.

Rob, he looks healthy. They are just very, very small. Meaning half the size they should be. When you combine that with the fact there was high die off, something is not right.

Just out of curiosity, could this have been because it was an oxytocin-induced clutch?

That is one theory, the other is eggs being moved during incubation.

I want everyone to be clear that this is not something that happened due to care of the babies after they hatched. I think everyone knows that Rob, Joe, and I take excellent care of the animals. This is just a good example of a weak clutch. Something was wrong with these babies beyond what we could do with any special care.

I do remember this thread-and I swore up and down yours was a girl-and mine is coming up exactly the same way that yours did. I really hope Cameron is just a slow grower and makes it.

Juli he looks great. A very cute little guy. Like you said, all of the babies are in great care. If there is a "defect" in this clutch, you won't be able to stop the clock. I would guess it to be more due to the eggs being moved/rolled. This may have created a hiccup in development, and depending on where the eggs were in the development, may have lead to an internal malfunction that we now can not fix. I could be too that some of the eggs weren't moved as much?? Perhaps the remaining survivors will be just fine :) No matter what, love him up all you can!!!!!!

Yea, I'll update some pictures of zap'z but he's growing at his own pace :) My guess is Cameron might get some more color around 8 months, maybe 7.

They are both very cute little boys. I hope they will both grow to be strong healthy boys.

Juli did his sisters you got not make it? Let us know of the test results that Rob was refering to. I know quite a few people on here have some small "for the age" chams.
