hi guys, well i made a few previous posts about my female yemen phoebe about her bein restless and not eating well i went to a reptile specialist 2day and it turns out she is egg bound, i have to feed her and water her thru a syringe, also i havent got any liquid calcium until the afternoon 2mora would it be ok the put a little bit of my calypso calcium powder into some water , mix it up, and give it her with the syringe?? cheers, Craig.

Is this all that is going to be done to resolve the eggbinding? Generally if no action is taken when a chameleon is eggbound the chameleon will die eventually. Did the vet not suggest anything else??

Liquid calcium is supposed to be absorbed better than the powders.

dude im tryin to do everything i can here, i took her to the vets and im taking his advice, he gave her an injection of calcium, i told him to inject her with oxitocin? the stuff that induces labour but he said that doesnt work that well on reptiles its better for mammals and birds so he didnt give her one of them, all he said was for me to force feed her and water her at the same time, he gave me some baby bird food powder stuff to give her as a liquid , then if shes not laid by tuesday shes goin back for an operation to get the eggs removed and to be spayed.

right so liquid calcium is abosorbed better i shall wait until dinner time then when i get my liquid calcium before i give it to her, cheers.

Liquid calcium is usually syrupy in consistency so be careful to give it a little at a time so it doesn't go into the lungs. Calcium is important when the female is gravid not only for the eggs but it plays a part in muscle contractions.

Oxytocin works sometimes in chameleons but from what I have learned it has to be given within a certain time-frame (close to the time the female should have laid). It can also cause problems if there is a physical reason that the chameleon can not lay the eggs.

Good luck!

thankyou kinyonga, ive got to give her 0.1ml of liquid calcium per day which does seem quite a small amount but im not vet so i dont kno lol. cheers for the advice on the oxytocin i have been told i shud use that from various people but there had to be a reason the vet didnt want to use it. some1 said even if shes really weak she wud still lay the eggs if she was given oxytocin is that true? it would probly result in her dyin tho wudnt it? cheers,Craig.
