I can only tell you that as much as we have left to learn about supplementation things have improved tremendously over the last few decades. I can't tell you how many reptiles I used to radiograph (x-ray) only to find they had almost no calcium left in their bones and what you could see had breaks. One upon a time calcium supplements were what you ground up from antacid tablets.
I like the second articles break down of all the variables.

I used to use Tums fruit flavored tablets in a pinch in the olden days before the wheel was invented!
I used cooked egg shells ground to a powder too at times. We did what we had to!

I’m not to knowledgeable in home remedy’s that’s why I can’t get enough of these chameleon forums as long as you listen to the right people (you all know who you are) you can always keep learning knew tips and good info, thus making the world of reptile keeping a better place for everyone that has a interest in it. I’m just very thankful for everyone that puts there best foot forward in trying to help everyone
